Holidays Overseas -
Patients considering holidays abroad need to check the rules regarding the Country that they would like to visit. It is your responsibility to check if you need a negative COVID test or proof of 2 vaccinations.
If you need proof of a negative test you will need to arrange, and pay for, a test yourself.
If you need proof of your vaccination status you must register on the NHS App, using a smart phone or tablet. If you are unable to do this you should contact 119 and ask for a letter confirming your vaccine status. You should allow 5-10 days to receive this letter.
Please DO NOT contact your GP Surgery. GP Surgeries cannot provide letters regarding your COVID vaccination status.
COVID Vaccines are available at vaccine centres across Yorkshire, including Priory Campus, Barnsley. Appointments can be made by following the link on text messages sent inviting you for your vaccine; or by contacting 119.
As of 14th June -
11,489 Hill Brow patients have received their first vaccination (83.2% of adults);
This includes - 98% of the over 80s; 97.7% aged 70-79; 96.5 aged 65-69 year; 93,2% aged 50-64; 86% aged 40-49 year olds; 74.4% aged 30-39 and 49.8% of 20 - 29 year olds.
8,543 have now had their second vaccination (62% of adults).

Hill Brow Surgery was established in the 1920s; looking after patients in Staincross and surrounding areas. In 2017 we merged with Rotherham Road Surgery, Smithies, and now look after 17,500 patients. The Practice has 12 GPs and a full Nursing Team. As a training practice we normally have two GP Registrars working with us, as well as medical students and student nurses.
Patients can be seen at either of our surgeries and most of our Doctors hold surgeries at both sites.
We are confident that our website will provide clear and concise help and give our patients the information they require in an easy and convenient format. It has been designed with the patient’s needs at the forefront of everything, from checking surgery times to letting us know what you think of us.
The most common symptoms of COVID-19 are recent onset of a new continuous cough or a high temperature or a loss of, or change in, normal sense of taste or smell (anosmia).
If you develop these symptoms, however mild, or you have received a positive coronavirus (COVID-19) test result, then you should immediately self-isolate stay at home for at least 10 days from when your symptoms started. If you live with others, all other household members who remain well must stay at home and not leave the house for 14 days. See the stay at home guidance for further information.
You do not need to call NHS 111 to go into self-isolation. If you feel you cannot cope with your symptoms at home, or your condition gets worse, or your symptoms do not get better after 10 days, then use the NHS 111 online service. If you have do not have internet access, you should call NHS 111. For a medical emergency dial 999
If you have any symptoms of COVID-19, you should arrange a test by visiting NHS.UK, or contact 119 via telephone if you do not have internet access.
Wash your hands more often than usual, for 20 seconds using soap and water or hand sanitiser, particularly after coughing, sneezing and blowing your nose, before you eat or handle food, or when you get to work or arrive home
Cover your mouth and nose with disposable tissues when you cough or sneeze. If you do not have a tissue, sneeze into the crook of your elbow, not into your hand. Dispose of tissues into a disposable rubbish bag and immediately wash your hands with soap and water for 20 seconds or use hand sanitiser.
You must wear a face covering by law in some public places unless you have a face covering exemption because of your age, health or another condition. You are also strongly encouraged to wear a face covering in other enclosed public spaces where social distancing may be difficult and where you come into contact with people you do not normally meet. Social distancing, hand washing and covering coughs and sneezes, remain the most important measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Face coverings do not replace these. Clean and disinfect regularly touched objects and surfaces using your regular cleaning products to reduce the risk of passing the infection on to other people.

We have been looking at how we can improve access to Practice services; Doctorlink is our new online service where you can access:
- Symptom Assessment
- Signposting to other appropriate healthcare services e.g. A&E, dentist, pharmacy
- Appointments with your own GP Practice
We ask that you undertake a symptom assessment through DoctorLink. The symptom assessment will ask you a number of questions to help to identify your problem. The outcome of your assessment will direct you to the right treatment, whether emergency care, your GP/nurse or self-care.
If your outcome indicates that an appointment is required at Hill Brow Surgery, an email is sent to the Practice to contact you to book an appointment within the timeframe specified through the assessment outcome.
The information you provide will be shared with your GP Practice (where appropriate) and will assist in providing robust information of your symptoms to the required clinical team member prior to your appointment.
Helping Yourself - Minor Illness and Self Help
You don't always need to visit your doctor to get treatment. Have a look through the Minor Illness and Self Help pages to see how you can help yourself to get well soon before contacting the surgery.
Our Reception staff have been trained to be able to help signpost patients to the most appropriate clinician or service; relevant to your specific problem. This should mean that your issues are resolved quickly and, by reducing unnecessary use of doctors appointments, will ensure that those patients who do need to see a doctor can be seen sooner.
Reception staff may ask for basic information about your illness, they have been asked to do this by the Doctors, and we hope that you will assist us by answering their questions to enable them to deal with your enquiry as efficiently as possible.

Surgery is closed for appointments with General Practitioner and Practice Nurse on the following afternoons, for training purposes:-

- 8th September
- 22nd September
Our dedicated team are here to treat those minor ailments that occur as well as providing specialist management of long-term conditions and clinics covering a wide range of healthcare issues. The technology also means you can now do a lot of things from the comfort of your home such as order a repeat prescription or cancel an appointment.
